Gather: Artistic and Functional Tableware

Revolutionizing the Dining Experience

In many restaurants and hotpot establishments, tableware often lacks personality and fails to create a connection with the overall dining experience. Recognizing this, designer Jia Jing set out to create a unique type of tableware that not only adds an artistic flavor but also brings fun and content to the dining table, allowing people to feel the culture and concept of the restaurant through their cutlery.

What sets Gather apart from ordinary tableware is its inspiration drawn from the architectural style of the Imperial Palace. Each piece of tableware incorporates architectural elements, transforming the dining experience into a work of art that seamlessly blends with the spatial environment. Before the meal, the tableware is combined into a building-like structure, serving as a captivating centerpiece. As the meal progresses, the tableware can be dismantled, revealing bowls and plates, enhancing the sense of experience and enjoyment.

The realization of Gather is made possible through the use of ceramic, a material known for its durability and versatility. The dimensions of the tableware measure W200mm x D250 mm x 300 mm, providing ample space for a delightful dining experience.

Designed by Jia Jing in collaboration with Zeng Jing, Wang Aihong, Liu Shiping, Liu Weiyu, and Xu Weiwei, Gather offers a unique interaction for diners. The tableware can be transformed from an architectural structure to functional bowls and plates, allowing individuals to personalize their dining experience.

The Gather project commenced in April 2017 and was completed in August 2018 in China. Throughout the design process, the team encountered challenges related to the deformation of ceramic during high-temperature firing. However, their dedication and expertise ensured the successful realization of the design.

Gather has received recognition for its innovative and practical design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is given to designs that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics to create a better world.
